i recently obtained some wild-caught fish from a
tank of newly imported apistos from Brasil. I obtained
some paucisquamis for sure. While i also got a few fish
just like the one showing in the following photos. The
caudal fin looks exactly the same as the paucisquamis in the
same tank of fish but the two horizontal bands across the body
are not obvious. So, is it a paucisquamis? :)

They are an agassizii-lineage species because they show the metallic blue patch at the corner of the mouth. A. paucisquamis, a member of this lineage, has a black patch on the anus. Do these fish have the patch? The broad vertical bars (in fright pattern) are seen on many species. Still, they probably are A. paucisquamis.

Thanks Mike. Hmm, i do not observe any black patch
near the anus. Please take a look at the following photo.
The one on the left hand side is definitely an A. paucisquamis,
the ones in the middle and on the right hand side look similar to
A. paucisquamis while the lack of two visible double bands
confuses me... (All fish in the photos come from the same
batch of wild-caught mixed apistos... )

I am now sure that the fish is A. paucisquamis,
it is simply an appearance of the fish when it is in some
mood... The two lines will appear when it changes mood :)
