Hey all :)

I bought 2 apistogramma's a few days ago and they sold it to me as the A. Viejita. But people told me many people sell the A. Macmasteri instead of the A. Viejita.

Could you tell me if i did get the A. Viejita or if they sold me the A. macmasteri?

By the way, i'm sorry for my english, i'm from The Netherlands so

Very nice fish.

I'm will let the experts discuss, but i'm not sure that female is not a male?

Morning,

OK I think this is a Mac and I believe both are males, the female you thought is the small subadult male. Beautiful fish though. Just my thoughts. cheers jk

i'm not sure, but it seems like the ''female'' is becoming more yellow? I'll place another pic of her/him later today.

I agree, the fish are A. macmasteri. The true A. viejita is extremely rare in the trade. Based on the photo, I cannot determine if the 'female' is a female. I can say that female A. macmaster (and A. viejita) rarely show much red on the face.

Based on the last photo, I would say that it is a young male. A female should show black rays on the front part of the ventral fins. Not only that, but the lateral band looks like that seen on A. hongsloi. I could be wrong about the A. hongsloi identification. It is difficult to ID fish from only a few photos.
