I just bought around 12 young A. Iniridea. They arrived 48 h ago from colombia and are now in my aquarium with pure R/O & peat extract pH 4.7-4.9
Is there any special tip for keeping them?
Are they as delicate as specified by Romer?
Here are some pics
Thanks
Koty

hey koty!
where did you get them from?

Very close to your home: "African Cichlid", Sde-Uziya farm 97

Problem is that all the shipment is in one aquarium. There are Veijita, Macmasteri and Iniridea (they are very small and unimpressive)
The prices though are very good.

and how are the fish? are they looking good? or a bit sick?

considering the fact that they came 48 hours ago from colombia they are in a good shape. Ami the guy who is selling them is keeping them in pure R/O water.
Time will tell. Anyway they need to get praziquantel and metronidazole treatments to get rid of "unwanted guests"

A. iniridae is a blackwater species. A pH around 5 to 5.5 and very soft water is needed to reproduce this fish. Neutral & above pH values weaken the fish & allow attacks by diseases & parasites. If kept in proper water conditions they are hearty fish, otherwise they are quite delicate. It is best to keep them in groups of 4 or more because the females can be very choosy about their mate.

I kept these for many years and found that they were pretty typical for apistos except for breeding. They were quite prolific but the only times that I could get successful hatches were at very low pH - often below 4.0. They were a favorite of mine the males of the strain I had would develop red lips that almost looked like lipstick. Unfortunately, I lost the strain when I had a serious myxobacteria plague run through my tanks about ten years ago.

Thanks,
I have 12 specimen. Currently according to the color and behavior they are recovering nicely from the trip. They are rather young as the males do not have the well developed dorsal. Some females are getting yellowish and are "greeted" by passing males. My aquarium is kind of a land mine for them since there are A. Macmasteri and M altispinosa with wigglers:

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
