Well if you read more of the text he uses it with other things anyway i'd focus more on the design high and low points then what some crappy fish might have been used with it.

I just added a bit more leaflitter to the tank.
I still need to catch one atahualpa fry. Last time I tried my fish trap, the greedy male got trapped and spend a whole evening gasping for air in his hideout.
