125 gallon panduro tank.

Well I've got the apisto bug now, after caring for some panduro in a smaller tank and breeding them I've become pretty elated with this particular species due to it's outgoing personality and tail slapping tendencies.

I'm thinking about 10 pair to start with in a 125 gallon heavily planted tank would be a good number, but I'd like to get opinions from other folks who have experience with these bad tempered guys...since I haven't kept them in a large footprint tank yet I'm unsure as to how much territory each male requires.

about a foot, but, in a large tank with a large population the bahaviour really changes.
verticals come into play as does the fear of losing ground on all sides. Targeted aggression drops as each male has multiple targets to worry about.

10 pairs in a 125g will be a good start with fry filling the rest of the tank pretty quickly...

I think 4 or 5 pairs may be a good place to start with, or 3-4 trios may be good too. I'm guessing that you will have lots of cover for them.
