Does anybody know what happened to the publication of Cichlid Atlas 1 new edition?
It was supposed to be published early this year, but from some reason it didn't...
That is really an amazing phenomenon, I've never encountered it in other Cichlids.
By the way, can you guess how it was possible for the eggs to survive without water circulation all that time?...
Hi Nick,
My country is very close to yours and our summers are very hot too (and getting worst every year). I must agree with you that the computer fans are the most cheap and practical way of keeping the temperatures a little bit down if you don't have a chiller, and we also use this solution...
The water I'm getting from my RO is usually pH 6.0-6.5. When I need a lower pH I'm usually using some acids for the job. Do you do the same? Especially when trying to breed some black water species...
Very nice Steels!
The small one does look like a female but I think it's to early to decide, it might be a young male. Not to mention the fact that females are not so common in this species...
I also use a big barrel filled with RO water that are been circulated and heated by a normal aquarium heater (in winter time). The water I'm getting from my RO system are in pH 6.0 and 25 mS so I have to mix it up with more higher conductivity water to the right proportion (just by adding...
Because it's important to let the tree suck all the nutrients and some toxins from the leaf leaving it naturally dry and safe for aquarium use.
If you pick the green leaves right from the tree and dry them by yourself they might release some unwanted materials into the water...
Hi bigbird,
First of all, it's important to use only dry leaves that have fallen to the ground.
What I usually do is first washing the leaves from dirt under the tap, then soaking them for a while in a boiled water bowl until the water cools down. That way the leaves get sterilized and also...
I agree Mike, but it was a minor problem for me considering the results I got and the fact that I mainly used it in breeding tanks where algae growth didn't bother me so much.
In addition, in any way I did'nt get an algae catastrophe, it was usually just a little bit of brown algae and green...
I usually use Phosphoric acid for lowering the pH when it's really necessary. I found it more moderated this way cause it needs more drops of acid in order to get the same pH level you would have got by using Hydrochloric acid. This way it's more unlikely to get sharp jumps at the pH level...
Does each male has his own territory in a different edge of the tank? Or whether the dominent male occupies most of the tank's terrains and pushes the other one to a far restricted area?
Do these fights usually end without any special injuries?...
