    Rineloricaria

Thanks for the info everyone :) The developing embryos are now visible around the yolksac. Now I just have to break out a tank from storage to raise them in when they hatch. . .it seems my fish don't want me to break down my tanks and move away to college

    Anyone attending ACA 2007?

I'll be there on the last two days.

    Rineloricaria

I've had these two Rineloricaria for several months now, and I haven't really searched to find out what species they are. But, seeing as how I just dismantled and put into storage all but one of my tanks in preparation for moving to my new college, they decided to spawn last night. So now I've...

    Seriously creeped out!!!

Pick them out with tweezers and feed them to your fish. My fish always loved to eat them and the leeches never had any negative effects on the fish.

    A. gibbiceps

The pH is around 5.5 and the temperature is at 26 C. GH and KH I haven't really paid attention to, but it's fairly low.

    A. gibbiceps

I've been fiddling around with my new camera lately and here's the best thing I've managed to get so far. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v694/Akwadood/Apistogramma/?action=view&current=MVI_0360.flv

    Reducing Nitrate Level

We tested Amquel plus at the shop I work at some time back. We didn't like it much, and it didn't seem to do anything for the nitrite/nitrate levels of water. Prime works to a degree, but I agree that plants and or the continuance of frequent water changes are the best bet to reduce nitrate...

    Swollen/Red gills

A shortened operculum usually results from genetic defects. I see it a lot in angelfish that come in from certain breeders who have used the same broodstock for way too long.

    Mostly males

Next time you get a spawn try keeping them at 74-75F and see if you get more females than males.

    Swapping borelli fry

Glad to here the female adopted her new young without a problem :) Somtimes if there is a size difference between the fry the female will not take them in. I had a few A. borelli once that refused any fry that were not their own, no matter how small the size difference.

    Indian almond leaves

Brown algae and cyanobacteria are two different organisms from two different Domains. Brown algae are diatoms, having appeared in the fossil record in the early Jurrasic period (~185 million years ago). Cyanobacteria are from the Domain Eubacteria; they are much older, with fossil records...

    Spawning gibbiceps

Well, after my female gibbiceps died, I thought I was left with two males; one dominant and the other subdominant. Then I moved them to my 20 gallon so the wild ones Retro_gk picked up for me wouldn't be picked on. That's when the subdominant "male" turned female. Today I discovered a bundle...

    Apisto SP. steel blue

Here's another person who agrees with you whole heartedly Mike! It's much easier to get people to drop 2 G's on a set up, but when it comes to a 40$ book, they mysteriously don't have funds for that. Hmmm. . .

    Almost A. gibbiceps

The abdominal striping is also absent on the flanks.

    Whoooo they're not sterile!

They've been free swimming since Sunday afternoon  The fry are too small to initially take bbs, so I just use frozen rotifers until they can tackle the bbs.

    Whoooo they're not sterile!

Finally! I know my gibbiceps are still fertile after all that time battling Camallanus worms! I came home from work this evening and noticed one of the pieces of ceramic pots was closed up, and low and behold, there are about 150 little white eggs plastered all over the roof of it! :biggrin...

    A. Gibbiceps - Red Head

I must say, I'm quite taken by this species. It is my favorite one so far to keep. Great pics :) Blueblue!
