    My female cacs excavations :)

Never seen this before - she has chosen a leaf resting against the front glass of the tank and has been shimmying sand away with her tail right down to the bottom glass and spitting sand out to block up any entrances :) She is also cleaning the leafs underside which hopefully means she has...

    Raising brine shrimps to adult

Perhaps unsurprisingly they all died! Upgraded the operation somewhat - hopefully have more success with this! Oh and a side note I hatched this lot with "Cornish sea salt" @ 5 teaspoons per litre and straight tap water with a lamp keeping 80 degrees, I also only ran the lamp from 11am to...

    Raising brine shrimps to adult

I've started to keep the leftovers of my BBS hatchlings after draining 90% of the water from my 2l bottle hatchery in a 12x5x10" tub sat in my kitchen and feeding yeast / paprika - no extra light or aeration I just swish the tub a few times a day. After a week I have a nice swarming mass of...

Is this cacatuoides juvenile male or female?

As expected I lost this fish - my first home bred apisto, he was the one fish I kept from my first spawn :(

My 10 gallon Cacatuoides breeding tank log

Hi mate its funny you mention that as its something that was bugging me being a small tank it looks very "exposed" from all sides. You are very posh with your card solution, I've always used black binliner :) also thanks again for the frogbit, in this low flow tank I already have nice long 6...

My 10 gallon Cacatuoides breeding tank log

The general idea is adequate hiding spots, oak branches or driftwood, oak beech or Indian almond leaves, sand substrate, gentle flow, temp from 26 to 28 with lots of cold water changes, coconut caves, subdued lighting and a romantic CD to play near tank. Also lots of good live food like grindal...

Is this cacatuoides juvenile male or female?

You can just see his tail where he is lying in a small cave in the rocks in the dark :(

Is this cacatuoides juvenile male or female?

Unfortunately this fella is not long for this world - slowly deteriorated over a week or so - very thin and laying on bottom, difficulty coping with any water flow and seems to have blood visible under the skin on his head :( have tried treating with interpet #9 internal bacteria but if he gets...

    apistogramma cacatuoides biotope

Also regarding tank dimensions a "long and low" tank is better than cube or tall tank as they will generally stick to the bottom and the larger surface area helps with oxygenation ;)

    apistogramma cacatuoides biotope

I would suggest a 15 gallon if you only want 3 fish with sand substrate and a filter with low flow. Plants wise I would go for easy care plants such as frog bit and water wisteria maybe bacopa, low maintainence plants that don't need co2.

    apistogramma cacatuoides biotope

Although you may not be interested in breeding I think if you are going to have 3 then 1 male and 2 females will make for a happier mix and enjoyable behaviour to watch.

My 10 gallon Cacatuoides breeding tank log

Don't take any advice from me - still waiting on a spawn! Typical as I have bred several times in community setup!
