Thanks for the link and information Mike. The aggies certainly look like the ones in those photos.
Larry I have to waite for a new 3 tier stand to be built and delivered, and then buy some new tanks before I can purchase any of these. Though I maybe able to persuade the LFS to hold a pair...
Hey guys,
A LFS down here has recently got in some Apistogramma cf. agassizii "Alenquer".
I would be interested in any information members could provide on this species. At this stage I am just going to keep an eye on them in the store. Don't want to jump in to this purchase.
The second pair in the small planted community tank have spawned. Of course they spawned on the piece of driftwood, and right next to the hole in it, that the dominant female agassizii calls home, upsetting the tank dynamics somewhat.
The male is doing a very good job of guarding the eggs...
ROTFLMAO,
About as sneaky as someone from south of the Mason-Dixie line living it up in the Great White North.
Anyway, what would you keep the fry in? an empty vegemite jar! Or do you have a tank or three setup now?
Thankyou Mike and Stephen.
It was the verticle barring/striations that had me questioning whether they were curviceps or dorsigera in the first place.
Stephen do they look like/resemble the wild form?
I really do like the look of them, however I was concerned that they may be hybrids...
Hi everyone,
I have kept both dorsigera and curviceps before. Recently I bought a group of 6 juvenile curviceps to grow out and hopefully get a pair or two from. However I am a little concerned by this group, as I think they may be curviceps cross dorsigera.
Here are some photos...
Hey Noddy65,
Best guesses from some of us Queenslanders, is that;
Apistogramma purple might be Apistogramma sp. "Pebas" ("Morado") .
Apistogramma painted face might be Apistogramma sp. "Masken".
No idea about the Apisto baenschi "diamond" at this stage.
G'day oohjohn,
$60 sounds like a lot, even for a very, very good pair of triple red cacatuoides. Unfortunately most quality apistos and other dwarf cichlids can be relatively expensive for thier size.
I have succesfully kept a pair of Laetacara curviceps with a trio Apistogramma agassizii...
G'day Mike,
I bought a pair of these apistogramma as well from the same LFS. Thanks for the ID. When you say southern tributaries of the lower Amazon, do these include the Rio Tapajos and Rio Xingu? Would you be able to give us some examples of the types of rivers and creeks where they...
Hey guys,
I bought this male a month ago as A. nijsseni. A week later I bought a female from a different LFS. I know 100% that these fish came from different shipments, so are unlikely to be related. For the past three days the female has been courting the male, but the male has shown very...
Well the only female I have a decent photo of is one of my agassizii females.
My nijsseni female is probably my favourite, but I've yet to get a decent photo of her.
Of my two new aquisitions, I believe the female Apistogramma sp. "Black-chin/Schwarzkinn" will be a looker, while the...
Hey guys,
I've searched this and other forums, and have read as many threads on D. maculatus as possible. But would still like some expereinced keepers to offer some advice on thier care and maintenance.
A LFS here recently got these cichlids in for the first time. I was very surprised...
G'day dw1305,
Thanks for the advice. I am currently reading Cichlid Atlas I and am aware of the effects of temperature on spawns. But so far the book has raised just a many questions in my mind as it has answered questions. Possibly some of these questions will be answered before I get to...
G'day Moche,
Today they are called Laetacara curviceps.
Sorry this photo is not in focus, and the fish are pale. I was cleaning the tank at the time and fish were a little stressed and lost thier colour.
Female in front and male behind. Best way to differeniate sex is buy looking...
G'day guys,
RAF My pair have bred numerous times. They turn almost solid black with no red or purple colouration at all. Unfortunately the fry get picked off by the tetras and pencilfish before they are two weeks old.
Stephan I am very jealous of your Laetacara collection. That is my...
