I hope Mike posts on this but as he is far more reliable than me but for me they are 2 young male macmasteri.
But I am only 75% sure about the ID and 50% sure about the sex
I really do hope I am wrong about both though.
Hi and welcome.
I am 99% sure the A.viejita are macmasteri but still lovely fish. Best of luck breeding them and remember me when you do
I saw them in the shops and they looked nice but I bet they look heaps better once they are settled into your tank. Would love to see pictures...
That's a heap of worms. Normally they recommend not pulling the worms out because if they are still attached then pulling them out will create an internal tear and probably cause an infection. But with 18 or more worms inside she would have died anyway if you hadn't acted.
I agree with...
That is interesting. I have spoken to two vets about this and they agreed that the eggs wont go dormant but will always hatch and then die if they cannot find a host quickly. One did say that they may go dormant during times of extreme cold. I withdraw that comment if you have better information...
For the first time in years I am worm free in the fish room. (fingers crossed)
I used a combination of levamisole and panacur100 in liquid form.
Each fish was treated at 2 -3 ppm levamisole in a bare bottom 25 ltr quarantine tank and fed a small amount of bloodworms that had been soaked...
This looks like a "put on" to wind us up but I will play too.
Neither of the fish you mentioned are apisto's and both are great fish to breed if you can.
One of the best as easiest apistos to breed would be, as Darrel said, the A. cacatuoides (cockatoo). Other fish have already been...
I cant help with how to keep them sorry but they are one of my favorite fish and definately on my wish list.
I would say do a bit of research and grab them while you can, they dont seem to be discussed all that often so I can only guess they are reasonably rare over your way too. The fact...
Notoriously bad at this but I think I can see at least one male in the first and second picture down on the first post.
I might stick my neck out and say there could even be 2 males in those shots.
In the bottom pics they all could be males; they all seem to have pointed dorsal fins and...
Look forward to the results of that.
I have about a thousand camellia tree's across my section and countless dead leaves in the gardens but never thought to use them because they are evergreen's.
This is very sad indeed. I don’t quite understand how he can claim a 10 fold increase in global warming? That seems awfully high but I am not there and the pictures do seem to verify his facts. I was always taught that an increase in temperatures causes more evaporation from the oceans and...
I got a few new photo's of the new possible female after the previous one (above) turned into a definite male.
The new 'female' seems to be turning too.
But first
Sorry guys (Mike :)) I am not much of a photographer and I don't have much of a camera. Bad combination I know but thank you...
I was looking at an inline UV but I decided to go with the precautionary method, nothing gets in my system now without being in QT first. I have done my time fighting cammelanus etc so no more bugs.
The only problem now is before I put cardboard between the tanks the neighbouring males spend...
I rearranged my tanks and now have 4 specialist blackwater breeding tanks.
600 x 300 x 350 tall
Each tank has an overflow with two outlets to prevent floods if one gets blocked.
Water is continuosly pumped up from the sump and into each tank through a canister filter with bio media...
Just got a pair of hongsloi. I missed out when they first came in but someone bred a few and I was extremely lucky to be allowed to buy some off her. I am really excited
Hope I can breed them to keep them going here. They look like wild colours but even 1/2 grown the male looks...
