I decided to not go Wild caught for this tank, as the supplier said they are not going for any prepared foods, live and some frozen on, and im unable to get any live stuff before they come. Besides, im not quite sure whether my water conditions will be right for them.
Instead, I have gone for...
Its frustrating because i cant find a pH test kit that goes below 6.0, so all i can do is keep it at 6.0, or at least what it says is 6.0 because thats the minimum.
The water i am using for this setup comes out at the minimum it reads, so im hoping it is below 6.0, its rainwater in a poly tank...
Thanks for the advice guys, i did want them for a little bit of both, but it turns out i wont be able to do that? Ill have to figure out what to do with them next... i think ive got something for them, just not quite yet, thats going to be a pain....
The only food that i have at the moment is...
Hey guys,
This is my second go at a planted apisto tank, the first one i had A.agassizii, but the female got caught in a flower pot and died,
So this is my second attempt, and its going not too bad so far.
Here is a pic of my tank, sorry its still a bit clowdy after i removed alot of the...
I dont think she is TOO thin, just feed some protein rich, quality, live foods regularly along with your staple for a while to get her conditioned up.
Of course, never over feed. Add just as much as your fish can eat and when she is conditioned up use your live food less often. it can give...
Hmmm, i suppose this could work. sounds a bit heavily stocked to me. In my general experience, stuffing as many species as you can in a tank, usually doesnt end well, thats why we like lots of tanks!! haha
May i suggest? :
8 Rummy Nose, or other small tetra
A pair/trio of Rams OR Apisto,
4...
Thanks for the tips Nicolas, that should help me with the stocking of my latest setup, its a 2ft, about 18 gallons and its more tall than wide so i am going to avoid anything more than a trio
Also any other suggestions for dithers, as neons/cardinals are pretty common and boring....
If i may ask,
Are bitaeniata and aggassizii more of the aggressive species or would a single female be acceptable?
On the other hand, would baenschi sp inka 50 work as a trio of 2 females 1 male?
From all i have researched on apistos, i think that Mike and dw1305 are correct, I think you...
Sorry i dont have any pictures, my gold occies are all gone now anyway.
I dont know about that Eco complete planted substrate... it sounds like a soil based substrate which would probably buffer your water to acid. MOST planted tank substrates are like this, so im guessing it wouldnt work...
I actually did use a very fine coral sand i collected myself off a barrier reef island, and all my tangs and shellies are fine with it, i think he discourages the use of conventional marine style coral sand because it is quite rough and sharp being crushed coral, so it can harm shelldwellers...
maybe a julidochromis transcriptus or ornatus pair, they go quite well with shelldwellers.
I dont know how cyprichromis species would go in your tank. I guess a school of about 8 - 10 would be alright, as they could would use more of the depth in the tank than normal, usually they use the...
I agree with Hague1982... shelldwellers dont like horribly active competing fish stressing them out, especially brevis. Brevis are hard enough to induce to spawn in a species tank with a few dithers, let alone with peacocks... Brevis are a nice fish, but they are terribly boring without spawning...
If i were you i would try my hardest to figure out why they are dieing before getting new fish again, new fish doesnt solve the problem. IF all is fine in your tank, it sounds like it could be the male.... seperation would be the best.
Thanks for that vid, the difference wasnt MASSIVE imo but that was quite an improvement. After a bit of reading, i have no doubt that NLS is good to feed, and that video shows why aswell.
Ive never liked flake, seems to be messy compared to pellets to me, and the NLS pellets that i use dont...
