Thanks for the replies - my sort of compromise has been to feed very small amounts over a day or so when i know i am at home - storing the rest in the fridge between feeds - saves overfeeding and I feel less wasteful throwing excess away and so am not tempted to chuck the leftovers in when feeding.
Wasn't sure where to post this and seems such a newbie esque query i thought i would drop it in here!
What's the general consensus on storing frozen foods such as daphnia, bloodworm and tubifex once defrosted?
I always cut the blocks down before defrosting (especially tubifex as those blocks...
From my limited experience I have had cacs that took several months of high quality NLS food and live daphnia to see a marked growth in the dorsal fin. I'm not sure if the reverse is possible but I'm sure that a dry food diet saw the extension drop somewhat or maybe just less flaring at least.
Such fussy fish - I just tried out the Hikari Micro Pellets that came with PFK magazine this month and despite them being a small orange pellet like the NLS Cichlid pellets they wouldn't even look at them!
Hi just wondered what temperature people here have found optimum for breeding cacs - as with most things a thorough Google search returns a staggering amount of conflicting "definitive" advice! I've seen articles ranging from 29 degrees c all the way down to an article suggesting unheated tanks...
Thanks - yes he always likes a good nose at whatever you are doing near the tanks :) if I sit and look in they will both come and try to stare me out :)
The female was born in this tank a year ago so will be nice to get a second generation of home bred fish - she was from an orange flash spawn...
I read on a different forum that someone had tested conductivity and found it was reduced but not substantially or rather not to the degree they would expect in relation to the drop in other parameters. I wish I saved the link to run by you guys but I think it also attributed the drop in pH to...
Hope to be able to update this soon with some fry pics - once I tackle the liquid rock water we have here (pH 8 GH 15 kh 8)
Tank is 10 gallons with floating bacopa monnieri, 3 coconut caves and two flower pot pieces with leaf litter and alder cones. Temp is 28 c with cold water used for...
Having been refreshing myself with breeding setups again over the last few days I keep seeming to stumble upon this thread and find myself increasingly jealous of both the photography skills on display and the fish in the photographs!
