A couple of months ago I got a pair and later added another female
Nice fish(long ventral and pointed caudal on the male) but colours have been washed out
I've set them up in a 40 litre tank....peat substrate, ketapang leaf once a week......80% rainwater/20% treated tap water
Last night I...
Hi Mike,
So you're the bugger! Got to be quick!!!
I was hoping to get a couple of males....but you got them both!
Rest are apparently females....and I have plenty of those
I was hoping to get some New blood....hopefully Jodi can get some more
My good male has paired up and I think...
I have ramshorn and Malaysian Trumpet Snails in all my tanks.....
Yes the can reach plague proportions....IF YOU OVERFEED
but I prefer to overfeed fry and have snails to clean up the leftovers....they wont eat fry....just cull numbers from time to time
No cichlid I've owned will let the...
I think you need to be careful....lots of Plain trees in Australia are eucalyptus
Could poison the water with lots of them???
"Swamp bloodwood" is an Australian tree that works if you can find some
It is better in my opinion to buy ketapang leaves off forums....seems plenty for sale...
Perhaps they are really Apistogramma juruensis???

Lots of fish are sold under fabricated names
these are part of the Cacatuoides group of apisto's
Sounds like Malaysian trumpet snails
I don't know of any Westies that eat them
Seems lots of people use clown loaches.....but this seems cruel because Clown loaches grow way too big for most tanks
I keep them in all my tanks because they eat uneaten food....before it goes septic....and...
I've had great results using NLS granules.....expensive but worth every penny
Live food at least once a week and more often if conditioning for breeding
If you treat calcium carbonate with acid.....it will dissolve....no sand
You have 2 options....
Change the substrate to something that is neutral
or
Keep shelldwellers....they like hard alkaline water
mmmmm....
I'd throw out the chemicals.....
Try mixing treated tap water with your ro water
Measure the Gh Kh and TDS to ensure it is low.....but I wouldn't stress about any particular number.....important thing is to be able to repeat the mix easily
Control TDS with % of tap water...
Got my vote!
concentrate on TDS.....ph sorts itself out
I do add ketapang leaves to all my soft water tanks.....tannic acid is best
Softer for breeding....increase Kh in growout tanks (snails do this anyway!) for proper bone development
I have a dilemma
I now have 2 pair of Nanochromis transvestitus....these are extremely rare in Australia because they are no longer a legal import...and those that are here are no doubt inbreed
My first inspection has proved to be incorrect

There is a GOD!
I just picked up 2 pair.....whooppeee!!!
Air freighted from Melbourne to Brisbane from a private seller
They are not a legal import in Australia and are as scarce as rocking horse .....t
These look to be in top condition....I seen some with deformaties due to inbreeding...
