Apisto Gephyra or Agassizii + sexing

Since I don't have an aquarium/photo thread (yet), here are some more photos :) Fyi: it's supposed to be a middle Rio negro biotope, but I took some liberty with the plants ;-) Such a looker! On the background one of his inmates (Crenicara punctulatum), don't worry the checkerboards are still...

Apisto Gephyra or Agassizii + sexing

Haha, and they colour up so nicely out of the shop. The colouration in shops don't do them justice at all! The male is showing a bit more aggression towards the females since today (chasing them for 10 cm's). The temp is only 24 degrees now though, because I like to keep a bit of winter/summer...

Apisto Gephyra or Agassizii + sexing

Thanks for the quick reply. Perfect! The females hardly have any pattern in the caudal fin. So it seems I was correct and in luck for taking one male and two females home. I love them so far, nice behaviour and pretty :)

The male came to the front so here is another one:

Apisto Gephyra or Agassizii + sexing

Hi all, I've gotten 3 Apistogramma Gephyra last week from a renowned Dutch shop (Utaka) who are 90% of the time correct with hard to ID species and I think they got them from Glaser. Anyway, I get them and let them settle in to be better able to determine the sex (and species). These were caught...

Can I make blackwater using my tap water?

Ah nevermind apparently its perlite, no nutrients but its there to keep it more airated.

Can I make blackwater using my tap water?

Don't use that one. I'm pretty sure those white balls are nutrients so its some sort of fertilized

    Agression observation

My add-on for this thread: non-wc Apistrogramma sp. Abacaxis: A couple with broods non-stop. No agression to eachother whatsoever. The male comes to look at the babies from time to time and sometimes chases another fish away but in general not aggresive to the other fishes either (hatchetfish...

Blackwater tank with leaf litter -> Cyano bacteria

I do remove it manually but it keeps coming back, even though the "liquid CO2" does make it a lot harder for the algae to come back. I prefer to not add nutrients to keep the ppm as low as possible and so far the plants are handeling that fine (there isnt a lot of plant mass though, because I'm...

Blackwater tank with leaf litter -> Cyano bacteria

Hmm maybe a tank-wide treatment is the solution then. Especially the cyano in the floating plants is hard to spot treat. Unfortunately, chemiclean is not sold in Europe. Anyone from Europe know a safe alternative (since i have WC fish i doubt about chemicals/medicines).

Blackwater tank with leaf litter -> Cyano bacteria

Hi all, starting a new thread since I was hijacking another one ;-) I have some cyano bacteria problems in my blackwater biotope aquarium, mainly in the leaf litter (where some 'liquid CO2" helps against if i spray on it with a syringe) and in the floating plants. Anyone else have this problem...

Can I make blackwater using my tap water?

I'll make my own seperate thread, thank you.

Can I make blackwater using my tap water?

Sorry for the hijack, but it does also fit with you cyano bacteria problem with leaf litter. I also have some cyano bacteria problems in my blackwater aquarium, mainly in the leaf litter (where some 'liquid CO2" helps against if i spray on it with a syringe) and in the floating plants. Anyone...

    Sexing Laetacara Thayeri

Both have about the same size dorsal threads now. And as for as I know, Laetacara thayeri always have the black spot right? (they both have them at home, but also in the video example above which aren't mine)

    Sexing Laetacara Thayeri

Hmm I also saw that, but for example, look at this video. Both have pointed dosal fins but they lay eggs.

    Sexing Laetacara Thayeri

Here are some photos, they are hard to photograph. The male has a brighter yellow on his top fin + it's longer than the other fish. Furthermore the male has a red/purple-ish glow close to his dorsal fin towards it's belly. On the photo's you can see nicely the fluorescent blue/green around their...

    Sexing Laetacara Thayeri

There is very little information on the internet for sexing Laetacara Thayeri. I've bought a male and a female. But I would like to double check here with the experts ;) the first one in the video is which I think is the female and the second one the male. He is a bit bigger.

Yet another cycling question.. but a bit different

I'm working on the floating plants ;) the last two weeks they doubled in surface area. Ignore the floating dried ones, still waiting for them to sink. For now I'll go for a combination of lower water level and lots of floating plants (the water level is actually lower than it seems, the angle...
