    Apistogramma agassizi 'Double Red' Spawning!

Cheers mate. All she's got to chase off, apart from the other agassizi are some Lampeyes, Pencilfish and Aphyosemion bivittatum 'Funge' so she's got a pretty good chance! If there's any problems I shall pull the other Apistos! The tank's just had a bit of a major trim and looks like this now,

    Apistogramma agassizi 'Double Red' Spawning!

Just thought I'd share a few pics with you! They aren't the best in the world as I didn't want to disturb them too much in the act! I haven't had the best luck with agassizi and lost the original male when I bought a trio. I bought a replacement pair and it is these two that have...

    Fresh Water Brine Shrimp

One seller sells the fairy shrimp eggs on their own but they are very expensive to me; $14.99 for 100,000 eggs! Compared to Brine shrimp; I get 550gram for £30! This makes the fairy shrimp especially expensive when you think that you get about 300,000 Artemia eggs per gram!!!!!

    West African Chromosome studies?

While running the whole mtDNA sequence would solve some of the practical sequencing problems (and some other advances since I did my work on the D-loop) they still do not make the accuracy issues of using one type of DNA any better. You still have to run various phylogenetic analyses to compare...

    West African Chromosome studies?

To add to Ted's reply the results you get also depend on which section of DNA you look at. While at Uni I did some work on Tangyikan cichlids at looked at the D-loop of their mitochondrial DNA. This is a slowly and steadily evolving section of non-coding DNA that was suggested could be used...

    kh and gh

To raise your GH and KH you can either add mineral salts or solutions to raise them or you can mix RO water with your tap water. How much you mix in depends on how hard your tap water is or which remineralising product you use. Why do you want such specific water parameters? If you're...

    cruzi, papgei or pebas?

    Question Extravaganza

I have used the crumb food from Ta Aquaculture and it's amazing food. As to whether it improves the colour I am not the best to say being colour blind and having fed this food for a few years now, but I haven't known a sinlge fish - even wild fish and killies - that don't eat it with relish...

    Steel blue? Anyone got photos?

He'll be fine on his own. They don't need to be kept as a pair. He'll still defend his own territory in the hope a female will swim along one day!

    Pelvicachromis taeniatus Dehane

Don't know if you'll get them cheap but some Chromaphyosemion killies would fit the bill for your tank IMHO. Mine get on well with Lampeyes and A.agassizi and even some of the fry survive in the tank. I'm just trying to remember which species is sympatric with the Dehane morph! If I find...

    specie, subspecie and morpho

I'll bow to the expert knowledge of the guy who specialises in them but I thought that the queens mate once when on their nuptial flight and that can be with an individual from any colony as all the ones in the area should release their winged males and females at the same times (as they will...

    So I had an idea

Rhodos are causing problems over here as an invasive pest species as nothing eats them. The reason nothing eats them is that they're toxic! Stick to Oak and Beech leaves IMHO!

    Leaves turning black

Your plants are short of the things they need to grow and are using the nutrients they do have, in their older leaves to try and grow some new ones! They need more carbon and nutrients. You have a pretty low stocking level so there won't be much nitrate or phosphate for the plants to utilise...

    Steel blue? Anyone got photos?

If you do a search on here you'll find lots of pictures of Steelblues. Now, if you've got a male, you just need to a much more elusive females!

    Suggestions for tank???

I keep my killies at room temperature in breeding tanks - about 23 degrees - and normal tropical temps when they're in tanks with other fish - 25-27 degrees. Just looking at that pic again how does the water get bacl into the individual tanks?

    hatchet fish species

Well there are two Carnegiella species commonly seen, C.strigata (Marbled Hatchetfish) and C,marthae (Black-winged Hatchet) and a number of larger Silver species in Thoracocharax and Gasteropelecus. Plus even larger species that look like semi-hatchets with less pronounced sternums.

    Suggestions for tank???

It'd be perfect for killies! Just fit something over the grilles if you are keeping tiny fry in there! The centralised system will alow you to keep much more stable conditions than the single tanks, I want to build one similar to this, but slightly larger modules for my killies. The other...

Ste why don't you just use the little report post icon so the mods know where the posts are? They will then be able to quickly delete the posts and ban the spammer. On the forum I mod it makes life much easier and I try to so that on here for the guys when I have time.

    specie, subspecie and morpho

Part of it depends on the description of the original species. When it's described if a new slightly different specimen still falls within the species description then it is included as a form or subspecies within that species. If it has some difference that means it can't be included within...
