Don't they loose their yellow and revert to just silver in the aquarium? From Mike's picture they look very similar to Hyphessobrycon robustulus with maybe a little paler or smaller black spot on the tail.
I've had these for a bit over 2 years and they were young adults so at least 3 years old - some pictures of the adult male:
and 3 pictures of one of his f1 males (i was noticing some orange form on the tail and wanted to compare him to the adult):
In the aquarium he looks a little different...
The number one place I find dwarf cichild hiding are leaves..... here is an example; two fishes can be with in a leaf thickness of each other and as long as they can't see each other they accept things as they are. Of course i have problems with leaves falling on plants and plants dying or...
Did water changes on 16 of the aquariums downstair and took pictures of two of them - from the front and top down:
The first one is the n. teugelsi:
The aquarium has been setup since late april/early may so the plants are haven't hit their growth spurt yet but they seem to be doing well in a...
I really wouldn't worry about ph crashing - as my aquariums get as low as mid 4's so there really isn't a lot of downward movement available.
Be aware that turning co2 off and on and off and on (not night/day cycle but for weeks at a time) will cause the plants to crash and algae bloom as the...
I really wouldn't inject co2 in a tank that has very soft water and i presume you have very soft water for this species to breed.
You can grow select plants quite well without co2 in soft acidic water and that is the route i would take:
So this isn't really on the D39 but i will make a comment at the end:
My a. ladisalo bred - not the original ones i picture above but a new pair i picked up from wetspot a few weeks ago (month?); in the 15. The original pair i moved out since i think the female is too old. They are definitely a...
Wow they are taking form quickly. I really should learn to breed pencil and tetra esp my n. epesi and h. eilyos but in truth i have no clue where to begin.
I wanted to bring this up a 2nd time but is the 222 number correct for tds? Tom's website has low to mid hard so maybe it really was 222. I have a group in ro water and i've kept them in tap before (around 120) but nothing close to 222. Really an under-rated fish.
a. cacatuoides were once called cockatoo i think.

Nijsseni can refer to a lot of things but i don't think there is a car called Nijsseni but i could be wrong.
Since i can't spell...
Is 222 correct - that seems bloody hard - what is that gh 10 or 12 ? I presume kh was pretty low since the water is acidic maybe 2.
That sp agassizii is bloody nice looking and that norbert is near identical to the ones i purchased from wetspot - nothing like the ones on Tom's website.
Well if we raised dinosaur there would be the advantage that when they tired of us they could dispose of us fast enough. Something our dwarf cichlids haven't quite figured out [yet].
First i find ph to be a red hearing - total softness seems more important. My n. transvestitus spawned in 'higher' ph then most articles suggest but the ec was around 40. The 5 dh is probably more important.

Also be aware that until you confirmed the eggs are fertilized it does not mean the...
