I'm not so sure from the pic of the "male" as it has pretty black pelvic fins. Does it have black on the underside of the body too?

My friend pointed out a small advert in the British cichlid Assoc trading post for the above named fish.
I've never heard of it. Can anyone comment if it is a real species? If not, could anyone hazard a guess as to what these are likely to be?

Both are probably fine for a 10g (is that 24"?) if correctly decorated with plenty hiding places. From my experience though, A.borellii are probably the most placid apisto, nijsseni can fight sometimes.
The temperature is 97f (@35C)? I am surprised they are still alive.
If you wish to breed the cacs I would leave them in the 10g (as long as their are no other fish), they may have just failed at the first attempt. If you think the famle is threatened by the male, remove him after spawning.

Are those from the same batch from which you supplied me fish?
Mine "sometimes" show a blotch towards the rear of the dorsal but it is not always visible.
They (male & female) have the zig-zag lines under the lateral band and also a black spot on the chin if these are also...
Definitely a bad infestation of camallanus worms.
If you administer treatment soon the fish should survive. I killed all the worms in a large community tank with one dose of Levamisole Hydrochloride (Levacide-TM), I did lose quite a fish fish though before a vet' gave me advice.
