    Pure Fish Works ?

When an expert in apistos offers for sale pairs of a species and agrees to a sale of three pairs and then commences to send 6 males and when questioned, demands photos ,and when photos are sent insists it is three pairs when clearly it is all males (verified by multiple apisto experts), I give...

    Pure Fish Works ?

Thank you JDM. Sorry to hear of your being ripped off by the owner of Pure Fish Works. Unbelievable! The reason I posted the question was because of his dodgy communication and claiming that obvious internet photos of apistos were photos taken of his fish. Another apisto keeper got back to me...

    Pure Fish Works ?

Does anyone have experience ordering apistos from Pure Fish Works in Minnesota? They currently have an availability list with a lot of rare apistos. Thanks.

    Help With H. sp. Moanda

Thanks, G, and yes it's been a while. And now I also agree they are all females. Was not aware of the spangling on the cheeks being a clue to M/F, so very helpful. To aarhed - I got these at Wetspot - they were the last three. However, I believe Jeff@aquaticclarity may have them in stock.

    Help With H. sp. Moanda

I received three Hemichromis sp. 'Moanda" as 1 male and 2 females. I have them separated as they were fairly aggressive toward each other. Here are photos of the three fish. First fish - largest and most dominant fish - I thought this was a male because of larger size, dominance and more...

    Nanochromis splendens WC

Hello, everyone, I have been working with licorice gouramis, as Darrel said, and have not been working with Westies or apistos due to space requirements ( I miss them though!). In regard to figuring out the identity of this splendens-like fish, what I have learned from the parosphromenus...

Some pics from a basement with planted tanks..!

Oh I see, I went right to the photos when quickly reading the post o_O. Not yours but your friends...:D Maybe you can team up and document that species - really nice. Not to many good photos or documentation of breeding methods etc for them - a great opportunity - hope it works out either way...

Some pics from a basement with planted tanks..!

Very nice, Micke, and you've got C. brichardi! - it would be great if you could put up a breeding log with photos on those under "West African Tankmates" or whatever. Very rare and not the easiest to breed. Good luck with them. Generally, I've not seen apistos kept in such densely planted...

Hemichromis stellifer wild pair with fry

I wish I had been able to breed the ones I had because they looked exactly like these - just really cool. https://www.flickr.com/photos/23681876@N06/2257046780/ - not the best photo of the species, but the one that most closely resmembles the pair I had. Good luck with your search for them again.

    2014 Biotope Aquarium Contest

Ha! We look forward to a more accurate recreation of the Peruvian biotopes from you in 2015? :) (Actually, with the great amount of photos from Tom C. et al. there is inspiration to create quite accurate biotope aquaria, indeed). I did wonder how many of the contestants have actually been to the...

    2014 Biotope Aquarium Contest

Hi all, Found a fascinating site showing tons of biotope aquaria from a contest. Quite a number of world famous entrants and judges - these probably represent some of the best in the world. Biotopes represented from around the globe. Here is the link...

    Wild Congochromis dimidiatus?

Hi Capt. Jim, I have some juvies growing out - still to small to even begin sexing out. Once we get some warmer temps, I can sell you some. Check back in a few weeks or so. And, I have no A. borelli Thanks, Dave

    A. calliurum - WC

Thanks, Darrel, and yes, I agree, a Cladophora species. I am familiar with a common Cladophora that grows in waterways around where I live - but that kind grows in large clumps (at times up to, say, 1 foot or more) and grows filaments much, much longer compared to the form pictured above. I've...

    A. calliurum - WC

I picked up this interesting algae at the LFS where it grows randomly in their tanks. It reminds me of a ragged marimo ball, as it forms loose rounded clumps of about 2.5 - 3.0 cm. It tends to attach to objects (in this case pea-sized gravel) by a very small attachment point and then branch...

Excellent - mine was Wild Life Management with botany and ichthyology classes. A few photos of the possible Taxiphyllum barbieri in my tanks. Not sure if this helps with ID without a microphotograph of the microphyll cells.

    Banded Bushfish

Hi Pisces 56. Another aquarist I'm in correspondence with saw your avatar of the super red P. pulcher who has been breeding them, but his line is deteriorating and he was wondering if you had or knew of someone who had such fish available, so he might add to his breeding group. Any help...

Ah - ha, there is a botanist in the house !:D. Great info, and thanks for the links - I'll try to get better photos of the moss I have - very long strands with few branching side fronds. Very interesting info on the hx of the taxonomy of Java Moss.

    A. calliurum - WC

Hi Micke, Thanks for you comments and like :). Sounds like a good deal on the moss. The moss in my tank is "java moss" but who knows what species? - but definitely not F. antipyretica, which has much larger leaves than java moss. The leaves may appear large in the photo - but in reality they...

    Chrom. bitaeniatum CI2014

Yes, I'm aware of the Diapteron appellation but have not really been clear myself on the actual correct usage of either Aphyosemion or Diapteron as the genus name. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what revisions emerge and go with it :).
