    Lone female apisto & chequerboards

Neither the rams nor the chequerboards are currently spawning, though I'm hoping that either will try. Saying that though, the rams are in a community tank, so even if they do spawn, there'll be little chance of them raising the fry I wouldn't have thought... I have seen them spawn once so far...

    Lone female apisto & chequerboards

She's leftover from a bunch of apistos I had. As I said, she's a senior citizen. Made a decision not to restock when the others eventually went as I was going for a bit of a change having had them for a long time. I don't normally keep them on their own, and if I knew someone nearby that had...

    Lone female apisto & chequerboards

I have a lone female apisto agassizi who is currently residing in a tank that has only a male crowntail betta. I have to keep the betta contained as in my experience, apistos and bettas do not mix and usually, it's the bettas that come out shredded. However, I would really like to be able to...

    Agassizi Egg Colour

I was wondering if there was a usual colour for agassizi eggs. I have a pair that just spawned again (I've never had fry) and this time I could see a few of the eggs and they were pure white - not fungussed, just white. These eggs disappeared overnight so I don't know if they ate them, but I...

New pair of Agassizi - behaviour info needed

Just looking for a bit of info. Have kept various Apistos over the years, with varying success so am not a complete beginner, but have never had any success with breeding, etc. In my main tank (4ft, planted) I had a pair of Agassizi, but the male died last year. The female has been fine and...

    Cacatuoides sexing - just checking

My male cacatuoides finally gave up the fight. I happened to be in my local LFS the other day and noticed another triple red. Younger than mine, or at least certainly a little smaller. However, the two guys in there (the son and his dad) SWEAR it's a female. I thought it was a male. Perhaps...

A Cacatuoides crash - help please

Ah well... He gave up. He is now an ex-cacatuiode. :( I did my best. Female is still bright and perky. I've seen another one at local shop. The guy in the shop says it's female. But it's got the same "flame" fin markings as my (ex) male, and no black on the pectoral fins like my female...

A Cacatuoides crash - help please

Couldn't get online last night so I didn't see this reply until this morning. But last night started a treatment of Esha 2000. Fish still not looking good, just sitting on bottom with mouth open. Not necessarily breathing hard, just open mouthed. Not seen this before.

How do you get Metronizadol into a fish that isn't eating?

A Cacatuoides crash - help please

Looked this morning. He doesn't look to be breathing too hard, but mouth his half open. And yes, his belly looks a bit tucked up. He's a bit funny with his food, doesn't particularly like flakes, but the female is just fine (perky and active) and does eat flakes so I'm not too worried about...

A Cacatuoides crash - help please

I am using RO with a bit of tap, no more than 20% + mineral additive. Nothing's changed there. I don't believe he's eating. He just sits on the bottom with his mouth partly open and his breathing isn't TOO bad but it looks more rapid than the others. I have seen this before in Rams, etc...

A Cacatuoides crash - help please

I'm sure this is the same thing seen over and over again. I've had a quick browse through some posts and haven't seen what I'm looking for so (sorry guys) I'm going to ask here... I've had a pair of A Cacatuoides Triple Red for about a month. They came in healthy and were fine and eating...

    Dutch Rams - sexing

Yes there are plenty of "dither" fish in the tank too. 6x Lemon tetras, 6 x Golden Pencilfish, 5 x Marbelled Hatchefish, 6 x Ottocinclus, 3 x Corys, 6 x Emporer tetras, 5 x Glow-lite tetras. Plus, I am in the processing of redesigning the inside of the tank, which will result in more plants...

    Dutch Rams - sexing

Aaahh... thanks for that. It's all learning, right? I think it was the pit digging that caught my eye. I've not seen that before. I think you guys are right. I must have two males. What's the best way to redress the balance? I have a 4ft tank. I'm not sure that's big enough for more...
