any opinion on Nannostomus marilynae vs Nannostomus unifasciatus

I like most Nannostomus species but in your 60 inch I'd go with the N. unifasciatus because they are one of the larger pencils. I think they would be more noticeable than the smaller N. marilynae.

    Happy day!

I must be lucky. I've kept Apistogramma spp. for a long time but I have never seen any that took the eyes out of any fish, let alone a Corydoras. Never seen one that tried swallowing any catfish either. However I have fed live albino Ancistrus larvae to my Discus and they ate them with relish...

tannins, apparent effect on floating plants

I also have trouble growing plants in my black water Betta coccina tanks. Have not tried Salvinia natans but couldn't get a starter culture of Salvinia minima to take off. Najas sprigs barely hang on. Potted Crypt. wendtii does fine as does Anubias barteri super glued to the bogwood. Hair algae...

how to deworm wild caught discus

I think you are doing fine and agree with you about your testing regime. Last year an old friend of mine bought seven assorted domestic discus which were about 4 inches in diameter. He likes to feed and feed and feed his fish. He has more types of fancy prepared foods than I would have thought...

If you're not doing so already, I would recommend that you keep and eye on the nitrogenous compounds. Do not allow nitrites to reach measurable levels.

how to deworm wild caught discus

You are not starving them if they eat. You don't want to even have a need to siphon leftovers. It means too much, food they don't want yet, are not interested in or all the above. Their needs aren't all that complicated. I've shared what I know can work for beginners to experts. You have more...

how to deworm wild caught discus

I pointed out that Symphysodon were omnivores quite a ways back in this thread. The current issue is to make them at ease in the evirons of the temp QT and get them eating something while avoiding any water pollution. New discus keepers often try to feed newly arrived too much and too often...

how to deworm wild caught discus

Use the Tetra Color Bits listed first. I've always used the standard, original granules size suitable for Cardinal to discus. Not the Crisp Flakes, at least for now. Try to keep a simple diet at first. Expand as you gain experience with your discus.

how to deworm wild caught discus

Impossible to know if the new fish will respond to freeze-dried tubifex. Highly doubt they're truly "blackworms," Lumbriculus variegatus. Recommend limiting initial diet to Tetra Bits. Not Bug bites, flakes and try very small amount of fd worm cubes. 1/2 cube for all four discus, not per discus...

how to deworm wild caught discus

I would let them acclimate and provide the bit of structure I described previously. Let them go without meds for now. I am very surprised you didn't have the frozen bloodworms in your freezer. They may not be interested in any commercial prepared foods at first. I would only offer Tetra Bits and...

how to deworm wild caught discus

Hi newbie, Your discus look fine to me. I would feed them very lightly 2 to 3 times a day during the next week to ten days. I'd recommend feeding them frozen blood worms. This would be the best of the easiest to obtain fresh frozen foods to start with. They are almost certainly already...

I'm a big fan of Mesonauta so it's a treat to see them given enough space. I kept a group of 10 with a similar number of wild P. scalare. Lively tank, both species breeding and lots of dynamic territorial behaviors...why I like SA Cichlids If you pot your larger plants in more porous substrate...

how to deworm wild caught discus

Whenever I have used pool filter sand as my substrate I kept the average depth close to 3 inches. A 4 X 4 inch rectangular pot is about 4-1/4 inches high. I used smaller pieces of bogwood and or pieces of petrified wood to help conceal exposed rims of pots. Typically I've used some Eco-Complete...

how to deworm wild caught discus

    K. xinguensis would probably be fine. As I've mentioned to you in pers. com, I lean towards smaller types of the Geophagus surinamensis. They are colorful, peaceful and have thrived when I've kept them with my own wild discus. I don't know how you have planned to aquascape the 220. I wouldn't...
