I breed most apistos in 10-gallon tanks. I usually start with two pairs, and then remove the male that ends up being the non-dominant fish. I also have a lot of hiding places in the aquarium away from the spawning sites. The tank is positioned end-out. The sponge filter is in one back corner. The other corner has a yarn mop that hangs to the bottom. In front of that is a potted plant (usually a crypt). Next to the pot (in front of the filter) is a piece of wood. The spawning cave is in front of all that so it can be seen from the front of the tank. I will also put another piece of wood on the cave. I use several magnolia leaves on the bottom and some Java moss too. Lots of cover in that tank!

Thank you informaiton and picture Ted. You can also use an additive to lower the pH?

If I need the pH to be low, I use RO water and let the leaves drop the pH. In my opinion, water cleanliness and low conductivity is more important than a low pH.

Thank you sir. I'm using oak and sycamore leaf. However, PH does not fall below 7. Thus I also use PEAT water change, Because of what I learned from this site. So that the PH falls 6,2. But how much is effective such as RO, I do not know...

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
