two updated pictures of the different male:

Unfortunately the lighting and substrate is different between the two aquariums making the comparison difficult. But i think the lok definitely has more orange in the tail.

And to satisfy your hunger a jelly bean:

On thing i've noticed from the f1 (about 1/6 to 1/8 full size) is they are developing very rich red on the dorsal fin that parents lack:

Not sure if this is a juvi thing or if they will be radically different from their parents.

Two updated picture - this is using a different technique - shining a flashlight on the fish to bring out the colours - the male and an f1 - not sure if the f1 is male or female it is about 1/4 to 1/6 size of the male:

The red fins draws attention without the extra lighting but the colour of the male looks very different under the aquarium lights.

Very nice fish.

The shape of the pelvic fins is usually the best was to sex “kribs” for me.

I believe the f1 with the red fin is a female. The male even at 1/2 inch drop the lateral line and that one clearly has retained the lateral line. I might be wrong and the fish might be able to drop and display the line at will. The other confusing thing (to me) is all the ones with lateral line are larger - typically the male grows faster then female at least with most species of apistogramma.

However the male dorsal fin has no colour while the female has a strong orange line which again to my naive logic suggest this will be a female with a red dorsal line.

That ignores that the pelvic fin also looks female ;)

For comparison the female is top of page 1.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
