First Apistogramma, what do I have?

My local fish store finally got some apistos in, Agassizii double reds. I’ve always wanted some for my planted tank and wanted to get a pair. They had 2 that were clearly paired off an obvious male and female. They were able to scoop the female but the male hid, they tried to find him again and grabbed what they thought was a male. I brought them home and they both are showing female colors I thought it was just stress but 2 weeks later still showing the same colors. Can you confirm if I have 2 females here?

Fish 1 is the obvious female very round body and fins, solid black line under the eye and on pec fins.

Fish 2 there is 3 pictures to help, slight point on the dorsal fin but not pronounced, faint to no black line behind the eye but has black lines on pec fins, also has slightly more red color but not showing the male coloration pattern like the one I saw in the store.

I am leaning towards female, but with these domestic strains it’s hard to tell.
Females are linebred with male characteristics.
Chance are it’s subdominant male, that just hasn’t colored up yet.
How big are they?

They are about 1.5 inches slightly more maybe. I was thinking it might be not colored up yet but I would think the pec fins would stay clear. I think they scooped the wrong fish and I ended up with 2 females the male at the shop was about the same size and already had color. I’d be happy to go back and get a definite male and just have a trio they are in a 40 breeder but I don’t want to cause aggression.

The two I have within the first week we’re chasing each other around the tank and lip locking or fanning their tails at eachother then one took up a cave on the one side of the tank and one on the other leaving me thinking it is 2 females claiming their territory

At 1.5"/3.5cm the 2nd fish could be either an immature male or a female. I would wait another 2-3 month of growing. You should be able to sex them by then.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
