How to train apistogramma to eat pellet

Hi, i would like to know, how to train my apistogramma to eat pellet. I currently have no access to buy live food or frozen food that look like worm. I try to give my apisto pellet like hikari micro pellet, tetrabits, nls insectum, and hikari sinking wafer. None of them make my apisto interested. Are they need time to adapt or any way to train them? Because last three months i keep giving live tubifex worms to feed. I want to know your experience about this

You spoiled them. ;) Also that's not healthy, because worms tend to be quite fatty.

Have you tried not feeding for 2-3 days before trying a kind of dry food?

Also make sure the dry foods you feed contain as little fish and grains as possible. Anything mainly insect or crustacean-based is preferrable. Not bevcause they will like it more, but it's better for their health.

I will try to give the nls insectum then, it's insect-based. I have tried to not feed them for 1 day. Next day i try to feed them again, and still no response from my apisto to nip the pellet. Sometimes they eat a little, but throw it out again

I feed all my wc apisto ground up fluval bug bite and they eat it fast enough sometime before i have a chance to release it from my fingers.

Fluval Bug Bite are the only pellet food that I have tried that apistos take immediately. Also realize that apistos are geophagines and sift food from the substrate. Even food not immediately utilized will be sifted out of the substrate. Just make sure the pellets don't rot on the bottom and foul the water.

Hi all,

Bugbites have been the only dried food that my fish have showed much enthusiasm for as well.

I have feeding success with Repashy Grub. The first ingredient is black soldier fly larva meal. it also contains some botanicals and vegetables.

Today i try give the apisto nls insectum. But no reaction. Then i give hikari sinking wafer. One of the apisto eat the wafer, one still dont want to nip even a little. But the wafer looks like going out through its gill. Does it really eat the wafer or not? Is it a good sign? It chew all the wafer

Bug bites apparently dererve my attention, as I have also spoilt all my Apisto's with Daphnia, white and black mosquito larvae and grown Artemia.
But when I "Google" for Bug BitesI find a lot of different varieties. Bug Bites is a brand name? In short, which one should I buy?

It's a brand by Fluval. Try sinking granulate. I have observed the fish chew the substrate were the granules land and dissolve.

Specifically you want the one in the blue container (small pellets); though in truth i buy the red one and grind it down - i also mix in nls algae max when i grind it (not sure if the fishes ignore the greens which they can of course). The red ones come in a bulk container that is much cheaper - the 'other red one' are large floating pellets for your favorite chocoalte cihild or similar.

The containers on the European market have different designs. Here in Germany they mostly come in white containers with a not very colourful label.

The varieties are mostly similar in composition. Just different sizes, formats, and packaging. I buy the small tropical fish granules for convenience.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
