IDENTIFICATION??

Hello everyone,

this is my first time here and was wondering if you can help me out I recently got a pair or apistogramma and was looking for some ID. They were sold to me as Viejta Golds but I’m not too sure. All I do know is that I love these guys

It is some kind of domestic strain of viejita, the blue light makes it impossible to tell more.

You have a bit of a colour clash between you fish (A. macmasteri "Gold") and gravel.

I'm not a great fan of gravel, blue or otherwise. Have a look at <"Tom C's comments">, he knows a huge amount about Apistogramma both <"in the wild and in captivity">.

Thank you for your response!! I have changed out my substrate with caribsea sand! Yes I felt bad for the fish in there when my son and I got into the hobby about 7 months ago I made the mistake of letting him choose substrate bad decision it’s my fault tho letting a 5 year old choose.
