A. mendezi is distributed on the right (south) side of the upper Rio Negro between São Gabriel do Cachoeira and Barcelos. There are 2 forms of A. mendezi. Your males are the Langstreifen form. This form occurs only east of the Rio Urubaxi to Barcelos. The Cross-banded form only is found west of the Urubaxi to São Gabriel. This unusual pattern distribution is thought to be due to the distribution of A. paucisquamis, which only occurs with the Langstreifen form, but not the similar looking Cross-striped form. It is thought that this keeps the 2 species from cross breeding.

No. The Langstreifen form is found in many locations between the Rio Urubaxi and the town of Barcelos. You should not give it - or any species - a collecting locality unless you know where it actually was collected. The only name you can give your fish is 'A. mendezi (Langstreifen/Long-stripes).

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
