Thank you both for your fast replies! :)
How can I distinguish a male inca from a female? I was told that the ventral fins are black in the female. Is that correct?

There is no way to confuse the sex of adult A. baenschi. Males have high, serrated dorsal fins and a bright red/orange margin on the tail fin. Females have a low fin, prominent cheek stripe and more pronounced bars on the back half of the body. The usually do not have much orange on the caudal margin.

The ones I'm trying to sex are rather young and small in size (about 2 cm) so they look quite similar.

There's a quite simple solution for this problem:

Wait, until they are bigger and reach sexual maturity. Then you will be able to see differences.

I can't see any reason to sex the fishes in this small size. It's even too early to sell them.

Rolo

I want to buy some, not sell. I just wanted to know if I can sex them so that I won't get more males than I want. I guess I can buy a few now and give away the extra males when they are older.
Thanks for your replies. :)

Hmm, if you really want to distinguish sex for infant inka, please try the following:
1. Male inka will have a body which looks more blue, female inka appears to be more yellow..
2. If you could see a caudal margin (yellow/orange/red), it is very likely to be a male fish.
