The male was not critically sharp so i'm not going to post but he is not nearly as colourful as yours. They are not in a blackwater aquarium - i was suppose to get borelli (long story) so the only place i had was a 40 gallon with a bunch of guppies.

If you can get a tank with darker sand I think it would help the male show his true colors, the male you see arrived without a striking color, I put them in a tank with better conditions such as darker water, leaves and fine dark sand and now the male looks great

What colour is your substrate? To be honest i'm limited in space right now - but in about 6 months i might be able to put them in a 20 long. In addition to them i ended up with some a. lineta and they took my current 20 long. i have a ~100 with 8 bitatena but i'm worry it would create conflicts if i added them. Also the tank is so large i only sometime see the bitaeniata so i don't feel comfortable adding them esp given their aggression level. The bitaeniata are not exactly passive but they do more displaying than actual attacks as far as i can tell.

It is dark brown and I put a little light gray sand on top of it, which is left.
