can any 1 help i hav wot im led to believe is a viejeta an no nuthin about them . wot temp ,paramiters and so on should they be kept in for good helth and breeding

Apistogramma viejita should be kept in slightly acidic soft water with a ph of about 5.6-6.5. They are cave spawners like other apistogrammas and productivity will be crucial on water quality and temperature. Decor for the tank should come as clay pots, leaf litter, and drift wood. Gravel can be left out for bare bottom tanks or if wanted, fine sands to small gravel would be ok also.
If breeding is the target, very soft acidic water is a must. I have noticed that my A. macmasteri, which is what most if not all viejita are in the hobby, spawn in water with ph 4.5-5.5 and do excellent. A temp of about 24-28 degrees celcius is fine. Providing a good diet of brine shrimp (baby brine shrimp/ Artemia nauplii), microworms, frozen foods, blackworms, and quality flake food, your fish will do fine. The fry grow fast and can be left with the parents with no problems till the young fry can be sexed or till the parents spawn again. you could also go to www.apistogramma.com to see if the fish you have is yours or do an online search.
