hey there!

I want to learn more oabout this fish FRESA/STRAWBERRY (Apistogramma eremnopyge) . it's really hard for me to buy him cose I live in Iceland and have to special order. from the LFS. what I'm askin about is: water cond. temp, ph, gh ect. and what level fish it is ( from the scale 1 - 5). I could ask at the LFS if they can get 1 1/5 pair for me. I migth be lucky or not.

i have had a group of six F0's for about six months. they are the most timid fish i have ever seen. they are always hiding. i have had 1 spawn but the eggs didn't hatch. when i first got them i had them at: ph 6.0, 1dkh, 1dgh, temp 79-80 degrees f. over the six months i've had them i've lowered the ph to about 4.8, kh 0, gh 0, temp. 79-80. and have still not had any luck with them. i'm sure other people have had better luck with them than me but they have just not been cooperating for me. maybe someone else whose had a better expeience with them will give you some tips.

Until recently I had a pair of wildcaught A. eremnopyge but now I just have the female. My pair spawned three times. The first time the eggs got eaten. I kept them in a bare bottom ten gallon tank with some pots and java moss. I used ro water and mixed in some kent ro right to bring the tds up to something in the area of 50 ppm. The temp was between 74 and 80 degrees depending on the day since the heater in the tank was a really cheap one. The pH was usually between 6.5 and 6.8. The pair was very shy. If I ever wanted to see them I would have sit on the other side of the room and be still for about ten minutes. Once I moved, they went back into hiding. Some of the fry that I am growing out seem to be much bolder than the parents. I do not know if this is because they are tank raised or if they feel more comfortable since there are other fish in the tank. I wish I could offer some advice to you Scott but to tell you the truth,I didn't do anything special. I think I just got lucky.

i'm not really worried about it. i just try to keep them as happy as possible and if they decide to get a little bolder or even spawn then that's great but if not that's ok to. the one thing i thought i might try is switching from a small gravel substrate which is in there now to sand and maybe add some oak leaves.
