I have been thinking about trying some shell dwellers in the future. WHat kind of water params. do they need, what kind of setup do they need, and how to breed them? And can plants be kept with them, and what type? I never have had African cichlids before, only new world cichlids.

I assume you are referring to the shelldwellers of Lake Tanganyika. They do best in rather hard, alkaline water (ph 8 or above), with a temp around 78. They like sand as a substrate so they can partially bury their shells and move things around. Here's a link to a site with some more basic info http://www.cichlidrecipe.com/shellweb/
