Sexing apistogramma macmasteri ‘red mask’

Hello all,

Recently I bought two apistogramma macmasteri’red mask’ at my LFS.
I wanted to get two females and purchase a man a few weeks later. Now I’m not sure if I have two females or 1 male and 1 female.
I added a few pictures of the fish. First two pictures are the same fish and in my opinion a female.
The last 3 photos are of the second fish. I have my doubts about the gender of this fish. This apistogramma is way more dominant then the other.
What do you think is the gender of this fish?
Both fish are ~4cm and are 4 days in my tank.

Looks like a couple girls to me? Behavior sounds about right, girls are savages

At 4 cm/<1¾" the first fish could be a juvenile male. It's hard to sex domestic fish at this age/size.

Hi Mike, thanks for your answer.
I was pretty confident that the first fish (picture 1 and 2) is a female.
The fish is colouring beautifully yellow.
More yellow then the second fish

Since this appears to be a xanthistic (yellow) color morph of the species, I would expect it to be yellow in both sexes.
