I have 2 Apistogramma but unsure on what type. I have added a post with their pictures to see if anyone knows. The male is very distressed and has a clamped tail but unsure as to why. I have tried to change some things in tank to see if female will pair with him but hasn’t. I also keep danios, phantom tetras, green neons and a dwarf gourami also

Hi all,
Welcome Rory, could we have a whole tank shot?

It won't be whatever is stressing the male A. agassizii (and I'm really poor at ID), but there are things you could do with the tank to improve it as an Apistogramma tank.

Have a look at <"Bob Wiltshire's web pages">, they are a useful guide to Dwarf Cichlid keeping.

As a start the gravel isn't ideal, you would be <"better with sand">. They are Geophagine cichlids so they will take in mouthfuls of sand and process them.

Also the coral skeleton will make the water harder, Apistogramma like soft water, which you will almost certainly get out of the tap in Scotland, you should be able to get a water report from your water supplier.

The coconut (behind the coral). I <"like coconut caves">, but they need a much smaller entrance.

cheers Darrel
