My e. Lucanusi spawned last week at some point - i never saw the female disappear for a while as you normally do with dwarf cichild - just one day i started seeing a few frys.
Here is the part that is driving me crazy - i rarely see the fry - usually both parents are up front begging for food like your typical dwarf cichild - but every now and then i will catch one of them guarding a group of frys as they graze - they seem to do this for a short period of time and then put the frys away some-where (perhaps a cave?) and then come up front (both parents) and beg for food.
When i do see the fry i inject bbs - but it is like once every 3 days for a few minutes and they are never out for long - and when they do put them away then both parents are out and about. This is very different from the n. teugelsi which behave like traditional where one parent is always guarding the frys and the frys can always be found by locating the parent. Usually the female is with the fry and the male is dive bombing the tetras and other wise guarding the parameters but from time to time the female will leave the fry and the male seems to always be aware when this happens and immediately take her place.
So my questions are - is this normal behavior by the lucanusi (my pair were sold as wc) and can someone explain what the is going on with them.
