Hello.

I recently bought two cacs from my LFS, but they didn't guarantee a pair. It was suggested that I may have either a female, or a juvenile male.

Everything I have read here suggests that it is a female, but she is showing no signs of turning yellow, despite some flirtatious behaviour with the male (he's a tripple red, and very obvious), and even entering a cave together.

Can anyone advise me from these pictures please.

Half of me hopes that it is female, but the other half hopes it is a male. If it is a young male, then it will obviously have to be moved to another (new :D ) tank straight away.

Thanks.

Ian.

it looks

hello Ian, your fish looks like it maybe a male. The topof the dorsal fins have some color on them. I have 3 male about 1.5 inch size and they look like yours, they also have elongated dorsal fins on the front of their dorsal and the caudal fin is also starting to grow into a lyreate tail. My females that are about 1 inch in size shows alot of yellow and the black on their faces are also pretty dark. I hope that will help

Thanks guys.

Now I am more confused than ever, because although it doesn't show up on the pictures, the fish very definately has black on the front of the ventral fins.
(Although I have done a search and noted that it is possible, if rare, for males to have the black on those fins).
I will maybe try to get a better picture, with those fins extended.

Cheers.

Ian.
