Hi

Can anyone tell me if there is a simple way to sex Laetacara Sp. "Buckelkopf" (Laetacara araguaiae)? I finally managed to secure 2 more of these guys to go with the two I had. I will try for some photos but my camera skills are weak and they are pretty shy as is.

I'm sorry, but I know of no simple way to sex them.
Compared side-by-side the male will look more slender, and its upper posterior part of the dorsal fin is a little bit longer and more distinctly pointed.

I kept them some years ago, and amazingly they always chose to lay their eggs on leaves of aquatic plants (Echinodorus bleheri), if available.

Thanks Tom. I was afraid of that. I guess I'll put all 4 together. I was hoping to avoid placing them with 1 my 2 originals because he/she is a bit of a beast (for a Laetacara) and I'm worried about the new ones getting beat on.

I see this is an old thread, but I'm interested in finding some of these fish. Have you succeeded in breeding them?
Do you think I'll be able to find this specie in Europe? Thanks!
