Keyhole Sexing

My keyholes are about 1.5 -2 inches. Which i am assuming is a sexable size.does anyone have any photo reference how to tell the difference or know how to tell? I know they are one of the more difficult fishes to sex.any info would be great

Sexing Cleithracara maronii

Hello Crimsonrain,

Yes, Cleithracara maronii generally exhibit fairly low levels of sexual dimorphism and dichromatism, so sexing them can be a tuffy. Males tend to exhibit more pronounced dorsal and anal fins that come to a point while these fins in females are more rounded. When mature, males develop filamentous extensions more so than females.

Thanks. I have two scenarios. One is they are the same sex, or two: that they arent mature enough where males would show those extensions you were talking about. thanks!

edit- based on a search on google, i am assuming mine are still young-uns. They still have shorter, stubby dorsal fins. Do you know the size/age they reach sexual maturity?

im noticing one with a higher set forehead, the other one slopes more. But i dont think thats a difference between sexes
