is it an A. sp. Breitbinden (male or female) ?

I recently got a wild fish and it was sold as
a male A. sp. Breitbinden. After careful
observation, i have some doubts... so, does it
really look like an A. sp. Breitbinden? Is it a male fish?

They all look like male A. sp. Breitbinden to me. They all have a bi-colored caudal fin. I don't recall ever seeing this on a female.

No, the dorsal fin is too high & the fish do not have the dark patch on the lower half of the caudal peduncle of A. brevis. The caudal markings are too fine for A. personata, nor does it have the broad dark band between the eyes that are characteristic of A. personata. Neither A. brevis nor A. personata (that we know about, since live specimens have not been imported) have the bi-color tail that is characteristic of A. sp. Broad-band/Breitbinden.

would the black margin on the anal fin be any indication as to sex of A. sp. "Broadband"? what of some shiny blue spots on the cheeks?

Both males & females can have black edges on the anal fin. See Römer's Atlas for examples of both sexes.
