Hello;
First up let me introduce myself. I go by the handle of Dr. Fishy since I consider myself to be a pretty good caretaker of almost all types of fish. I have been in the hobby for about 38 years and before that I was around my parents aquariums also. I have kept many types of fish and cichlids from west Africa are now the rage for me to try with all the new species that have come out lately and are becoming more and more available through sites like this one.
So it's not "all about me". I would like to purchase some books that are fairly new for the West African cichlids I mentioned above and have found several but I am a very thrifty guy so I would like several opinions about the books others have bought in the past say 5 years? This will let me hopefully make a more cost conscious decision about which ones to purchase.

There's only 1 book worth having: Anton Lamboj's "The Cichlid Fishes of Western Africa". The only other available book in English (Linke & Staeck "Cichlids from West Africa" over 10 years old & quite dated.

Anton's book is fantastic imo. It makes you want to go out and keep all those cool fish that are in it. :)

ThankX so Far!

Hey ThankX!
I have thought about the purchase of the linke book but as stated quit dated and not as informational from what I hear.
I will have to see the price for the book by Anton. Do you know the cheapest online buy?

In my opinion, Linke & Staeck's book is quite good for the species listed - and you have to realize some of the names have changed. It's only problem is its age. The Germans have several later editions, but even these don't match Lamboj's on the number of species.
