I can't be positive from what I see, but if they were actually collected with D. filamentosus, they probably are A. pertensis or something related to it.
Update ; there getting a little bigger and starting to show signs of aggression
1 . one is a coppery gold color , possible female ?
2 . the others are displaying to each other .
3 . All display 2 spots ( caudal spot + 2nd lateral bar spot ) when in a neutral mood
4 . pectoral + ventral fins have no color just blue iridescence's
5 . anal fin has slight orange color and blue iridescence's also blue terminal spot stripes
6 . dorsal fin is bordered in a reddish orange then white the full length
7 . There are 2 rows of dotted abdominal stripes
It would be nice to put a proper name to these guys , especially if they breed
Any help is appreciated
Compare your fish with photos of A. sp. Weißsaum/White-seam. This is the same species as A. sp. Minima & A. sp. Kupferrücken/Copper-back. The species is very small, 1½ - 1¾"/3 - 4 cm. The horizontal orval to almost rectangular lateral spot looks very similar on both your fish and White-seam - as does the small square caudal spot. Like your fish, the White-seam has a couple of rows of horizontal abdominal spot. The caudal fin pattern of White-seam is composed of vertical rows of closely spaced tiny dots. The dorsal fin is bordered by a white seam/edge, hence its name. The Copper-back color form has an orange seam. Does this seem familiar?
Now for breeding conditions , 6 of them are now in a 20 long , water RO mixed with tap , PH 7.2 , TDS 75-80 ppm .
I have read that they need PH 5 and lower and at the levels that I have them they should be showing signs of stress or lack of feeding , not the case they are doing quite well and are 1 - 1 1/4 inch , doubling there size since I got them .
They will not take flake foods but love the live BBS , adult BS and daphnia given to them daily .
The larger of them is a coppery color and does not show the same aggressive posture as the others do to each other , 45 degree tilt as shown in the last pic , would this be a female ?
Have you ever spawned this species Mike ?
I have more questions but this will give me a start
Breed them?? I have never seen one alive!:frown: I live in an area where the only "Apistogramma" that you see is usually a Ram! I think you have been reading CA1. Uwe is quite "conservative" with his breeding information. I would expect that, since they are found with Dicrossus filamentosus & D. gladicauda, that similar water conditions are suitable. Start with moderately soft water (< 5º dGH/2º dKH) and a pH around 5.5. If this does not work, start lowering the values.
