hello,
that's a great looking borelli! the coloration looks very similar to borelli's that i have seen called arica/pantanal although the yellow is much more intense and its hard to see any of the blue vermiculations(i think that's the word i'm looking for) but that is probably just because of the photo. i may be way off base on this because it's been a while since i've seen those fish and my memory isn't the best. someone else with more experience than i can probably give you a more conclusive answer.

Dr. Wolfgang Staeck did an extensive collection of many locations over the range of A. borellii. He found A. borellii to be a highly polychromatic species in which the amount of yellow & blue is not diagnostic of any one collecting locality. All of the color forms are found in each location. He did, however, find that more fish had more yellow on the body and fins in the northern part of its range & more blue in the southern parts. If you don't know where your fish was collected, just call it A. borellii. These fish will probably produce some blue forms as well as yellow ones.

Thanks for the information. They are line bred pantanal from Germany. Or at least thats what they were sold to me as. I just wanted a confirmation. They do breed true in that they produce uniform offspring of the same color as the parents.

I guess to me they seem to be the most stunning form of borelli. Personal opinion. So I guess what your saying is such a colorfull fish can be found in other borelli locations as well? I have alwasy been picky about borelli and most do not satisfy me. These are the best i have ever received. I thought I lost them but I just contacted someone who has some pairs to give me of the original I brought in last year. With these pantanal I also received a paraguay. These were basicly the same in color ie blue body yellow head and tail yet were not the same in over all brilliance. In either case I intend to keep these guys in my fishroom for as long as I keep Apistos They are my all time favorite Apisto coloration wise. Thanks again

Dave
