Hi,

I need a bit of help to identify the female in the attached pictures. I ordered a pair of Agassizi Tefe and also a pair of Pulchra Porto Velho (along with 2 pairs of Miua). The fish were bagged individually in unmarked bags and one of the females was DOA at the importers. Question is which one? The female in the pictures is still small but I tend to lean towards it being Tefe rather than Pulchra. Does anyone have any ideas?

Many Thanks

Mark

based on the picture given, It looks like a. pulchra... definitely not aggie female...

From the picture itself and what mine look like, I'd go to say it's a young male pulchra! the coloration in the face and the caudal fin with the markings is a fair giveaway that it is a male pulchra.

Thanks guys - thats me bemused! I have attached another picture of what I had initially thought was the Pulchra Porto Velho Male but after my initial post the lack of any pattern in the caudal may suggest this is a female? If it is a female is it Tefe or pulchra? I have to admit I have started to lean towards the Tefe as the fish appears to get on with the Tefe male reasonably well at the moment and there is no colouration in the caudal. The joys of ordering pairs from an importer!

Many Thanks Again

Mark

Yes, it looks more like an agassizii-complex form than a pulchra-complex form. Agie forms tend to have slightly narrower lateral bands. Without knowing how large the fish actually is, I won't guess its sex.

I find it very strange that the supplier wouldn't mark the bags! Rather unprofessional if you ask me.

Thanks again Mike,

I'm not 100% with the sexing but I think it may be a female. I now know that it was the Pulchra female which was DOA. Haven't got a clue why the exporter/supplier in Brazil didn't mark the bags. I know whats what now anyway so I can order a Pulchra female.

Cheers

Mark
