getting males to flare

Lastnight I got out a small mirror in hopes of getting my male cac to flare for some pics. I`ve seen lots of people doing it and it seemed to work like a charm.

Mine just took up barracks under an Amazon sword and didn`t move. His eyes went completely black, obviously mad, but no showing off, no aggressiveness, nothing but a sulking beauty.

What`s the trick? Is my male just rather passive and not into conflict?

Is there a female in the tank? Maybe he just does not feel like a dominant fish.

Yup. 2 of them. Just spawned with one and about ready to spawn with the other.
