I'm working on getting some Bloivian Rams and was wondering if them being siblings/from the same spawn would be an issue?

Or do fish not matter much when siblings breed/spawn in regards to defects/deformities?

With myself as with most, it wouldn't be a problem at all. In the wild, dominant male apistos are known to drive competition, by way of their sons, from the immediate area once they've grown a little and then turn and court the daughters. There shouldn't be any problems at all with spawning of siblings. best luck . john

Thanks John!

The info is appreciated.

I'm hoping to pick up 6 M. Altispinosa soon and hoping I can actually get 3 pairs from it. Gonna place the 6 initially in my 55 and see what pairings I might get...then once paired, the odd ones will go to my 25.

Siblings can be bred for a few generations. If purchased from a breeder you will know if they are siblings, from a store I would assume they are from the same spawn. If you notice a large number of deformities then you may need to get some new blood to pair up with your current rams.

I replaced my original male ram with one of the sons as the male was not all that big and my female was giving him a a$$ kicking. Often to "fix" a trait like great colour or fin shape (in guppies particularly) sons are bred with Mom and daughters to Dad. My fry are only about 2 weeks old so it is hard to say if there will be any problems, but I don't think so.
