Hey, I have a relatively well planted aquarium but struggle to keep my plants going for longer than a few weeks. and they never ever really get going. I have recently bought a large selection and got them planted however every other time I have put new plants in they have been covered with Black Bush Algea within the month. My tank is well lit although i cant think off the exact Watt per gallon of the top of my head so I dont think Lighting is the problem

I have heard that Flourish Excell can help to get rid of Black Brush ALgea but can also seriously improve plant growth.

Has anybody had any experiance with this product? How long does th product last? or got any other advice ??

Check your nitrate to phosphate ratio. I have found that when I get less than 10:1, I start to develop BBA. Going in other direction, when I get over 20:1 I tend to get BGA.

I have heard that increasing CO2 kills of BBA, but in my experience just fixing the ratio has corrected my tank. That said, many people swear by Excel as a algae killer.

Excel is an excellent carbon source in place of injecting CO2 and will give even, but slower plant growth. It can also be squirted directly onto BBA and thread algae to kill them off. Some plants don't like it though like Vallis and Egeria/Elodea.
