Hi Happyfins!

I will check on the air pump you talked about. I am in Quebec (Canada) and it doesn’t get very hot here (just few days in the summer) but rather very cold.
About electricity, will the Mattenfilter die in the tank (loose all his filtration properties) as fast as a canister? Maybe because of the bigger volume (tank vs canister) and the air surface, it will last longer in case of a electricity problem...

I understand your point and I am happy because I learn a lot here!

Still want your opinion on my borellii (see my other post before Happyfins please).
Than you!
Camille

Hi,

http://www.swisstropicals.com/about-us/

This guy seems to think that mattenfilters survive much longer in case of a power outage.
I concur. I had a corner style mattenfilter without electricity for 48 hours. No side-effects that I´m aware of.

Hi all,
About electricity, will the Mattenfilter die in the tank (loose all his filtration properties) as fast as a canister?
Matten filters are much more resistant to electricity outages than canister filters, because they have a large surface area exposed to the oxygenated tank water and the top of the filter is at air level.

The issue with canister filters is that the oxygen can't be replenished inside the filter, it is the flow of oxygenated water into the filter that keeps the nitrifying microbes alive, once the flow stops oxygen is rapidly depleted.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
