I have tried and failed to breed the three species of Dwarf Pike Cichlids I have been able to acquire. I have had C. wallacei, C. notothalmus and C. compressiceps. I found the C. compressiceps to be have extremely high levels of intra-specific aggression but the other two were much more tractable among themselves. Many times it seemed like they were in spawning condition but I could never get mine to spawn let alone get to raise them.
I have had no trouble keeping them with my wild Discus, Heckels at that time and even Tetras like Black Phantoms so they have a lot going for them.
Good luck in breeding them. I may try again and I would lean towards C. notothalmus. I like their relatively small size and the females' lovely colors.
