I picked up a bueatiful german bred triple red a couple of days ago and its very aggressive to non-cacatuoides (BN's excepted). I was wondering if fish bred in different areas might display qualities more or less extreme than others, or wether this is just a Very territorial fish, he is also MUCH bigger than my other males, is this also a trait of german stock?

Andrew
edit in, almost forgot is it possible to guess the age of a fish? ie are there any traits that be more obvious with age

Apistogramma cacatuoides

Hello Wolfie,

It sounds to me that you have a mature male Apistogramma cacacuoides, and, expectedly, it is the dominant fish in the tank, when compared to immature congeners. As far as I can tell, the aggression cited by you is simply a matter of maturity and has nothing to do with anything else.

Let the others grow up as well and see what happens.

All the best,

Randall Kohn
