Cherry Barbs as dithers

Hello,

I am looking into starting a 10 gallon Apistogramma cacatuoides breeding pair tank. I know this is slightly smaller than ideal but I can always separate the pair if aggression arises.

How effective are cherry barbs as dithers? Would they only pick off a lone fry here or there or would they decimate the entire spawn? How many cherry barbs should I get if they do indeed work well as good dither fish? Thank you very much.

For spawning apistogramma cactuodies in a 10 gallon i would use pencilfish as dithers, cherry barbs may work in a larger tank.
