British cichlid association autumn convention 2011.

Hello all, after the success of our previous convention we at the BCA have been looking forward to the next! Time has gone quickly and this convention has come around fast! We have a busy timetable for the day and there is truly something for everyone. The event is being held on Sunday 4th september.

As per the last two years we are holding the convention in the centre of the country in Redditch, the social club we use has a long history of hosting aquatic events and is of a excellent size and location. Hot food is provided plus a bar serving both hot and cold drinks.

Lodge Park Social Club
Wirehill Drive,
Lodge Park,
Redditch, Worcestershire.
B98 7LH

Entrance fee is set at a very fair £3 for adults while under 16’s are free entry, for this you get entry to the event, plus a goodie bag containing food samples and other excellent give away gifts, the value of the freebies is worth far more than the entrance fee. We have also been asked to trial a brand new brand of foods designed and distributed by Tetra, these are ready to hit the shops and Tetra have sent enough food to keep the entire BCA (fish) fed for a year!! All we ask is that you fill in a questionnaire for Tetra which you will receive with your free food (These are not sample packs but 170g large tubs!!)

We have a short AGM to take care of, the BCA is running smoothly at the moment so we are determined to keep the politics short and have put aside 30 minutes for this, we hope that it will not take this long and then we can all get on with the day of doing what we all enjoy! talking fish!!

We have 3 lectures planned for the day, firstly we have invited the world famous explorer, author, and scientist Dr Wolfgang Staeck from Germany, he sent a list of 19 possible lectures so we put it to the vote and BCA forum users eventually chose the subjects for the two lectures. First we have ‘Lake Tanganyika a lake and its fish species’ this will be a fascinating insight into this wonderful lake by someone who has actually visited, collected and studied the fish species of this huge inland sea. The second lecture by Dr Staeck covers 'The underwater habitats of cichlids from Bolivia and Brazil' this will be a mind blowing trip underwater and into the actual conditions that aquarium fish are found in, in the wilds of the Brazilian and Bolivian Rainforest Jungle.

In between these two lectures we have a short lecturer by BCA membership secretary Mr Simon Morgan, Simon has recently changed jobs and works with R/O systems for a living, he has very kindly volunteered his services to share his knowledge with the BCA on the workings of R/O systems in a talk titled "A Practical Guide to Reverse Osmosis" with the poor water in many parts of the country many people go over to using R/O, Simons lecture will give you the benefit of his professional knowledge!

After all this knowledge being shared it will then be time for the world famous BCA auction. No where in the country will it be possible to find a better selection of cichlids and associated fish all in one place!! We have cichlids from all areas of the hobby, from the Rift valley lakes to South America. There are numerous rare and unusual fish that you simply will not find anywhere else! Plus a great selection of dry goods and foods.

The days schedule will look something like this.
